Looking to Fight a Looming Doctor Shortage

Rising demand for medical care and a shortage of primary-care physicians are drawing venture capitalists to startups like Bright.md, which has just raised $3.5M to connect doctors and PCPs online. Demand for primary-care services is expected to grow more rapidly than physician supply, largely because of population growth, according to the Health Resources and Services Administration. Startups aim to increase access to medical care in various ways, such as by establishing urgent-care centers that offer an alternative to the emergency room and PCPs. Bright.md software lets patients input information online. Then it suggests a diagnosis and treatment plan to the PCP, who makes the final medical decisions.
